HistoryMullins Food Products had humble beginnings
on the west side of Chicago. Founded in 1934 by Harry J. Mullins, the business
started out as a tavern. There, Harry bottled his own brand of Prairie Chef BBQ
Sauce that he developed for use in his tavern. Eventually he began selling it
to customers. Soon local grocery stores and dining establishments were also purchasing
Prairie Chef. Upon his return from WWII, his son, Jack, took the business
a step further. Because of the popularity of this special recipe and Jacks
persistence, he eventually landed national accounts with corporate retail food
chains. Upon Harrys death in 1961, Jack took over, he and his wife
Joan pursued the food industry full speed ahead. Through the years, the business
gained momentum and in 1968, they purchased Packaging Service Corporation. This
gave Mullins Food Products the capability to expand their packaging line to include
flexible film pouches, cups and bulk items. During the past seventy years,
Mullins Food Products has grown from a family recipe to a major player in the
liquid condiment industry. Our product lines have expanded not only from the items
manufactured, but also to the types of packaging we offer. Yet, the sauce that
comes out of the kettles today is still the same top-quality product that Harry
Mullins produced in his small local tavern when he founded the company in the
1930s. Today, our fully automated facility located just west of
Chicago in Broadview, IL is equipped with the finest state of the art machinery.
We feature a complete product development test kitchen, pilot plant for developing
new products, QA lab and multiple manufacturing and packaging rooms, designed
for specific products. Our building is over 330,000 square feet and we employ
over 400 people, many of them long-term employees with us since our early years. |
