The Mullins Family got their start in liquid products by making a custom Barbecue Sauce at the Mullins Tavern. Patrons requested to buy the sauce to take home and when that became a regular occurrence, Harry Mullins and his family knew they had a sauce-sensation on their hands. In 1957 the Barbecue sauce was officially branded with the name Prairie Chef Barbecue. The slogan for the sauce at that time was “Come and get it”! The sauce was originally packaged in 28 ounce glass bottles and plastic gallon jugs, eventually moving production out of the tavern to the original Mullins Plant, located on Lake Street, on the west side of Chicago. Who would have guessed where we would be decades later? Today, we are known as the premiere private-label sauce developer in the industry and proudly provide products to leading QSR’s, foodservice and retail brands.
