Our 9th annual Joan’s Angels event on November 26th, 2016 was a huge success. Joan Mullins started this event during the height of the financial crisis. She recognized the financial burden families in our local towns were experiencing and knew they would have a difficult time buying Christmas gifts for each other. In 2008, Joan reached out to her local parish and asked how she could help. She was provided with a list of 70 family names. Gifts of toys, clothing, electronics, and kitchen items were purchased for the families. With the help of others, Joan set up a mini store at the parish and invited the children to pick out gifts for their parents and the parents to pick out gifts for their children. Each gift was wrapped and labeled so that everyone would have a surprise on Christmas morning.
Joan Mullins was truly an angel who always looked out for others. She never wanted any attention for her good deeds and acts of kindness. Her gift truly was helping others whenever possible. Joan and Jack Mullins encouraged their family as well as their friends to act locally and make a difference in their communities.
Joan is deeply missed, but her legacy continues to live on through her children, their spouses, her grandchildren, close friends and co-workers.
